n behalf of the staff of the Florida
State University World Affairs Program, I would like to invite
you to the Regional Training Conference website. This year the Regional
Training Conference (RTC) will be held September 10-11, 2004.
Let me first give you a little background on the conference. The
Regional Training Conference started as a small weekend training
exercise put on for students at the University
of Florida & the Florida State
University. It was developed for the purpose of allowing delegates
to participate in Model United Nations style debate in a real conference
setting, allowing them to gain experience and knowledge in an array
of MUN topics, while learning exactly
what Model U.N. is all about without a high degree of time investment,
nor previous knowledge.
RTC combines the experience of the traveling team members from
the FSU World Affairs Program & the UFL Model United Nations
Team, providing challenging debate to even the most seasoned delegates,
while at the same time offering an optimal environment for first
time delegates to learn the ins and outs of Model United Nations.
New delegates will learn the art of Model U.N. debate, gain valuable
experience for other conferences and events, and have an opportunity
to compete in an academic competition which will sharpen and refine
their public speaking and critical analysis skills, all while meeting
and interacting with new and interesting people and having fun in
a learning environment.
Once again, this incredibly successful training opportunity will
be held at the Florida State University, in beautiful Tallahassee,
Florida on September 10 and 11. RTC Committees will simulate
the Disarmament and International Security
committee and a Social, Humanitarian,
and Cultural Committee. For non-beginners, we will be offering
a Iraqi Cabinet crisis simulation.
The crisis will be geared towards delegates with minimal prior experience.
Proof of some prior experience will be required to participate in
the crisis simulation.
With seven RTC's and numerous competitive conferences under our
collective belt, this year's RTC staff is looking to make our seventh
conference the best one yet. The months of planning have paid off
in the past, and, we're sure that this year will be no different.
Now all we need is you. You can register
individually or your universities, schools, organizations, and groups
can register
to compete as a team. Various individual and team awards will be
presented at the conclusion of the conference. Individual awards
are given to recognize delegates in committee for outstanding contributions
to debate and critical reasoning. Team awards are given to teams
contributing the most to the conference.
Please explore the various sections of this website and register
yourself or your team today for RTC Fall 2004! If you require any
additional information please contact us at director@fsuwap.org.
We look forward to seeing you and your team at the FSU/UF RTC Fall
2004.
Sincerely, Danielle Hale
